About the performance
“Aksak Kulan” is one of the Kazakh people’s historical legends. Its title is connected with national historical memory, the art of the kui—an instrumental musical composition—and the legends preserved in oral tradition.
No one dares tell the fearsome khan that Jochi has died. Ketbuga conveys the tragic news through the sound of the dombra instead of words. The story behind this celebrated Kazakh legend reveals the power of the kui and the ability of art to touch the human heart. The famous legend comes to life on the puppet stage.
About the theatre
